Maurice, LA - A Homegoing Celebration for Ms. Jacqueline Olivier Richardson, 83, who transitioned peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 1:10AM surrounded by her family at Maison De Lafayette in Lafayette, LA will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Family Life Church, 2223 Dulles Drive, Lafayette, LA 70506.
She will lie in state at the hour of Ten O'clock in the morning until the time of service.
Internment will be private.
Jackie was born in Fairford, Alabama on April 23, 1941 to Olivia Dennis. Her birth name was Ollie Jean Dennis. She was raised in New Orleans, LA by her aunt the late Ms. Carol Wallen. Olivia had two children, Ollie Jean and William Dennis of Indian origin.
She confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized by Reverend Walter J. Bemiss at the Fifth African Baptist Church in New Orleans. She was educated in the New Orleans Public School System.
She met and married Robert L. Jackson, Jr. at the Dew Drop Inn in New Orleans. To this union three children were born: Leon Dennis, Joseph Louis, and Carol Francis.
Possessing a beautiful voice, she sang in the choir at Fifth African. She later met Ike and Tina Turner becoming one of the Ikettes. She took on the stage name Jackie Lenn which she used until her demise. Jackie was also the background singer for personalities such as Major Handy, Patrick Henry, and Irma Thomas to name a few.
Later Luther John Adam Richardson, Sr. (Ching Chang) saw her at the Dew Drop Inn (New Orleans) calling her "The most beautiful, sexiest woman in the club - the singing cigarette woman!" A musician himself, they parented three children: Glenness Antoinette, Tonia Deanna, and Joh Adam (better known as Luther), they traveled together to Lafayette, LA, Opelika County, AL and New Iberia, LA.
She leaves to cherish her memories three sons: Reverend Leon Dennis Jackson and Joseph Louis Jackson of Houston, Texas and John Adam (Luther) Richardson, Jr. of Maurice, LA; three daughters: Carol Eagleton (Ronald) of New Orleans, LA, Tonia Richardson of Carencro, LA, and Glenness Antoinette Pickney (Melvin) of Maurice, LA; one adopted son Marlon Ray Batiste; one step-daughter, Althea Carter; eight grandchildren: Brandon Charles Richardson, Rachel Monique Collins, Lucas De'Ball Richardson, Javen Tramone Richardson, Anna Rose Gabriel, Ashley Nicole Marie Stutes, Tyler Jerome Benoit Richardson, Devan Jamal Benoit Richardson; great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and beaucoup friends; and special friends: Shirley Duhon, Rebecca Mitchell and Lavon Foster.
Jackie will be missed and remembered by many.
